Saigon Inspirations
Vietnam rocks!
Just got back from Ho Chih Minh City (also called Saigon) this evening. Visited loads of touristy spots as well as night markets, overall an eye opening trip. Traffic's horrendous - it's amazing I didn't see a single accident.
Liked the fact that the entire city is ol-skool too, like Singapore in the 1970s (well not that that I saw Singapore in the 1970s ...). I also took quite a number of pictures in black/ white, adding to the whole rustic feel.
Saigon has all kinds of local folks trying to make ends meet. Many aunties selling stuff on carts - still wondering how they can stand all the heat. The weather's insanely hot, could have made scrambled eggs on the road.
On our trip to the Cu Chi Tunnels, we also met our highly entertaining tour guide cum war-survivor "Jacky" who kept on repeating how he liked meeting young people on his bus. It's great to know how humans appreciate peace & stability so seriously in their lives.
Vietnam opened up to the world only in 1990, but within 16 years, it has become very tourist friendly. Still a long way to go for a country stuck with war and poverty, but everything's looking real good in years to come.
I have tons of other pictures to show and tell, so do come on by again soon whilst I am uploading them over these few days.
