Saigon Inspirations

Vietnam rocks!

Just got back from Ho Chih Minh City (also called Saigon) this evening. Visited loads of touristy spots as well as night markets, overall an eye opening trip. Traffic's horrendous - it's amazing I didn't see a single accident.

Liked the fact that the entire city is ol-skool too, like Singapore in the 1970s (well not that that I saw Singapore in the 1970s ...). I also took quite a number of pictures in black/ white, adding to the whole rustic feel.

Saigon has all kinds of local folks trying to make ends meet. Many aunties selling stuff on carts - still wondering how they can stand all the heat. The weather's insanely hot, could have made scrambled eggs on the road.

On our trip to the Cu Chi Tunnels, we also met our highly entertaining tour guide cum war-survivor "Jacky" who kept on repeating how he liked meeting young people on his bus. It's great to know how humans appreciate peace & stability so seriously in their lives.

Vietnam opened up to the world only in 1990, but within 16 years, it has become very tourist friendly. Still a long way to go for a country stuck with war and poverty, but everything's looking real good in years to come.

I have tons of other pictures to show and tell, so do come on by again soon whilst I am uploading them over these few days.

To promote the party, he went door to door and visited all the hawker stores in the morning to shake their hands whilst people eating their fried carrot cake & bee hoon. They also have wrist bands + newsletters I heard.

Apparantly, I read in the papers that even securing the venue was an big problem as another organizer (lightning fast!) wanted the same venue to host Paul Van Dyk.

The crowd looks like 40 - 50K minimum, hell - even Zoukout didn't have that many people at Sentosa! There were a couple of warm up acts as well which I heard played really good sets. People were cheering, but alas, due to the police around the area, the party ended about 10 pm or so.

Anyway, I am not sure if there will be any more last min parties this week as a lead up to this coming Sat's election after party.

Oh, did I just mention elections? Well, I hope not since I am NOT supposed to be blogging about the upcoming Singapore General Elections and what the opposition has been doing.

Stellar Music Digital Podcast Launch Party @ Suba

Had a great revival last Sat at the Escape to Suba/ Podcast Launch party. We had probably 150 odd folks in the house, but it kinda dwindled once 12:30 am came. Guess they went off to other clubs to party?

I also managed to get behind the decks for the 1st time in a long while. Short set but enjoyable. Hell, at least I didn't screw up any mixes.

Anyway, here are the photos for the event!

Shouts out to Josh for the design of the collatorals, Jason for being the whiny door bitch, Sue Ann for her patience & excellent tag slotting skils; Zekk for a thumping set, Don for an amazing warm up set and talented Effen for an inspiring set! And everyone else who came to support and party - especially my friends!

Am currently planning the next one, so if you want to be included in the invite list the next time, hit me up at djkeishi@gmail.com
