Hi! Back from Kl and feeling incredibly ill. At home now, but still working at 55% efficiency.

Amazing how 2 weeks have passed so quickly or so I think ... everyday is going past in a flash. It's kinda fulfilling personally but upon recollection, it does seem pretty pointless. It's really hard sometimes when you mix passion and work - and all seems a little tough to mix. Then again, I can't be complaining - just do my best.

Christmas is coming once again - and I might be getting the "festivalphobiza" soon : meaning the fear of festivals. It's a word I came up with. You know - the whole Chrismasy thing and the New Year thing. It's all so intense, so rushy, so many last minutes, so little time. Maybe it's time, that I wish, could stand still. Plus - it's quite lonely out here sometimes despite the constant surroundings of hustle & bustle, friends and folly.

U know the problems with these blogs is that it's tough to contain your words despite the urge and temptation to write whatever I want. You never know tomorrow someone might come up to you to say "Hey! Dun feel this way."

I will go "Huh? What you talking about ... ?"

He goes "You know your blog thing ... "

Well, I dun think that many people bother about my blog, but YOU NEVER KNOW. It's scary lah ... dun really like people snooping and acting all dodgy around me.

Hahah!

Wednesday, November 26

Oh!

Unfortunately (or fortnuately), my trip to JKT has been postponed, so Ill be still hanging around SG sorting out stuff. I went to watch Butterflies today. It was a quaint French film about a grumpy Grandpa who found a little girl and took her to the woods to look for butterflies. It is as innocent as it sounds. = p

It's filled with nice scenes of the snow capped mountains, and trees and all that nature stuff - but it was over before we knew it ... Slightly over an one hour I think.

I just realized this blog is supposed to be out DANCE MUSIC and DJ-ING, but now it seem it's like a diary!

Generally, I havent been Dj-ing much, and have really re-thought if I would ever really go into it again ... I guess the highlights was going to Hong Kong and Malaysia to spin in the first half of this year, and those totally rocked. It was fun, and it was kinda nice travelling around like a superstar DJ .. only I am not - nowadays my job is to make sure the superstar djs who come to Centro is well taken care of ... Ha!

Anyway, been getting a few tunes recently. One of then being the Sasha remix of Unkle's In A State. Everyone's playing this, probably even the radio. It's lush, with some nice vocals - not really sure male or female - plus it's easily remembered, but Sasha is prob capable of more decent stuff. The guy that has been doing it for me is Ozzie Luke Chable. Everything he has remixed or produced has turned to gold - old time favourite being Accardia's Into The Dawn. The latest collaboration with Bonicci of NUBREED "Ride" has also got everyone in the scene all hyped up and happy ...

Finally, my favourite all time DJ James Zabeila is coming to Singapore in the 2nd week of Jan .. but unfortunately it seems we not able to book him this time round. He's off to Jiak Kim St. RATS = ( I would really love to attend this gig. Charming and all round nice guy as well, whom girlfriend checks his email , I think up till this day.

Enuff of this boring stuff ...

See you on Friday!

Monday, November 24

Since the last time I wrote on the blog, I have been to more than 500 km away and back ... dunno why I did it, but it was kinda fun. Even though the last time I was there only 2 weeks back, I felt that I havent been there in ages ....

Anyway, had a great dinner, then uh hum ... some ... slept, finally lunch the following day at the Ritz before heading back. Even managed to squeeze in some swimming in the morning, but when the pool is situated 22 floors up, I didnt really have a good time because I was freezing my shorts off in the cold water!

Off to Jakarta in 2 days - and you know - I am feeling a little jittery about going there! *Fingers and toes crossed* But it's all for a good experience so it should be all that bad!

Today was really fulfilling! Since I didnt head down to the club yesterday, I had a pretty decent rest (Although I still hit the sacks at 5 am). I was mixing a bit when English born Tokyo-based DJ Dave ..... (not sure his full name) called me up to inform me he is playing at Mahalo in the afternoon. I thought it would be nice to say Hi, so I rounded up Jason and got him to go to East Coast park with me for some 'family cycling'. Babe Factor not that high today, but had a lot of small boys and girls getting in the way.

Met Dave after getting a bike - said hi, talked a bit, and went back on our cycling thing. After, we were off the the beach siide (well not really the beach, near the cycling path but we could clearly see the beach) at a place called Bernie's for dinner. Munched down a huge ass burger, and then off the McCafe for a chcolatey desert ... Ahhhh .. Life Is Sweet!

While we were at our coffee, it started to pour and we were so grateful that we were not out there in the jetty or somethin! Hahaha! Woo ooo ...

Headed back home soon after, but nonetheless a great day when I caught up on some nice new tunes for this Saturday, perhaps.

Yeh!

Cheers,
Kelvin

Tuesday, November 18

Day started well, and had a nice rest today - before heading down to the club to have further discussions about parties, parties and more parties! Finally went to gran some records at HMV as well - nothing to outstanding but really felt to need to play fresh stuff. Don't even feel the excitement of downloaing stuff anymore.

Thinking hard what else is there in my most 'happening' life as work at Centro , but drawing blanks ... except now I am going to head to town to perhaps catch a movie before heading home.

Oh yes, my ticket has been booked to Jakarta next week! How exciting ... = p

See ya and speak to ya soon, perhaps at 3 am = )

Monday, November 17

I dun believe I have not updated my blogspot for so many months! How time flies when everything is throw to you, sidewards and back ...

The Ministry of Sound Essential NYE party is also under preparation already - I am actually looking forward to it - but then after realizing that I might not be sleeping for a week before that, I am not that glad about it anymore. But's it's all for a good cause - making people happy.

I've been lazing around on weekends nowadays - in fact I appreciate any time spared on any day/ evening/ weekends that is not work related. How I long for the beach now ...

Just popped over to KL last weekend, and it was pretty fun - only that everything ended so fast, and before I knew it, I was on my way back. But it was nice to get away from it all once in a while. I really needed that, esp after that 24 hour party thing with Pepsi X, which was one of my work life's most challenging and stressful experiences so far.

But I think this was one of the most fruitful and relaxing time I had in KL as well. Besides meeting a whole bunch of friends, I also didnt do much clubbing. Eating like a glutton I did - well that's because I have not been eatin much before those weeks. I HAD TO MAKE UP FOR IT!

Besides, everything was "half price" and really could not resist myself.

= )

Thursday, August 21

Yikes! Work has been great so far ... only maybe I need to get a little used to ...

"Escape to the Powerhouse!" happens this Friday at St James Powerhouse! Exciting ... and I guess everything is going to be quite amazing ...

Due to some arrangements, I have been assigned to have dinner with Tom aka Junkie XL, his manager, his sound technician, and light technician, 3 members of Australian group Nubreed and Shem aka DJ Slacker + Microchunk from UK!!! Oh mine .. so many people all squeezed into that PDR at Centro. It's hell going to be the most exciting to say the least ... god knows what I have to say to these guys and 2 gals ...

Imagine switching from "progressivehouserock" talk to "breakbeat" back to "progressive house" and maybe to some vj talk ... oh mine ... hiaz .. i am already getting nervous .. = p

hope all goes well, and Ill let u know what happens after the event ..

See you there!!

At the Powerhouse!

Saturday, August 9

Yeh - today's my birthday! National Day as well, so it's always kinda nice. I do not really feel any special at all these few years. Perhaps birthdays are becoming more the same with any other day - loss of significance.

S0, I just got back from Centro and Liquid Room, and it was ok, except that I only heard one tune at LR, before they decided to close.

Oh in case you did not know, Centro now has a 4 am closing policy for all Saturdays! That is definitely more interesting!

Have a Happy National Day!

Sunday, August 3

Have you ever tried travelling to Johore Bahru by bus, and wish you just somewhere else? I am sure you have had that wonderful opportunity.

I just back, and it was a horrible trip, tons of people who refuse to queue, and what's worse, meeting a mad man on the bus home.

This weekend has been one of the most eventful weekends of my life ...
(1) Top of the list - being very sad, and not knowing why (* read last post). I think they are all the same, just when you think you have found the right one. Back to the turntables for me then ...
(2) New Job Tomorrow - Yes, It's official. I will be joining Club Centro for "special projects". Mysterious but definitley interesting.
(3) Closing Down of GarageSaleShop.com The Website, as of Aug 2003
(4) Soon to be opening - GarageSaleShop Artist Agency. Details to be revealed soon ...
(5) Left my last job on Friday, and throwing away all my costing sheets, and inventory levels at my warehouse. It's a great job, and hell one thing I learnt there was to be blatant in your lying, and sometimes it works. Nah, I usually dun do it outside of work. It's a health hazard I know.

So, that's that. I hope I can get an explantation soon for item (1). Then maybe I can share it all with you.

Off to dinner at the SICC.

Cheers.
...
Today I learn an important lesson yet again about life. Well, exactly today, but more like 6 hour ago. It's about how people work. I utterly give up ... who, what - I dun think I can say. This blog is too public to constitute revealing any details. Today's blog really nothing about music. I have taken a step back the last week or so about music and events to take a 'break'.

Nonetheless, I think I am pretty affected by certain decisions made beyond my control, and yeh - I guess I am not the chosen one.

If you have been following my blog all these weeks, it seems that everything seems beyond my control - haha! Maybe I just refuse to make too much effort anymore. Maybe I am just too preoccupied by "seemingly important" things in my life, maybe I dun have the courage.

But's it's sad, really.

It's a sad day, but I am sure I'll come back pretty fast. Bear with me if I seem distant in my thoughts this week = )

Cheers, See you on the dance floor.

Sunday, July 27

Once again, I takes ages to update this page, aplogies yet again. I dun figure that many people actually bothers to read about the life and mundaness of the life of Keishi, right ?

Just returned from a gig @ Centro entitled Klarity Welcomes Everybody. It's a first step in pushing progressive house to the masses. Although it is the Zoukout weekend (and I was supposed to be spinning right this very moment ... but that's besides the point), the turnout was quite good, and we had a packed dance floor most of the time. Comparing gigs in Hong Kong and Singapore, I think the Singapore crowd is harder to please - variety seems to be the way to go, Singaporeans get bored easily, I find. But melody is the way to go for me at the moment, I seem to be throwin in lots of Sasha and James Holden stuff at the moment, they really get me going.

But overall I was feeling a bit under the weather and at the moment, a lot of issues are on my mind. Hence I dun think I played the best of sets today. The HK one is hard to beat at the moment! = p

But there is something I would like to discuss here and perhaps, defend myself, on the issue of professionalism and co-petition.

Recently I was pulled out of a biggish event, and despite attempts at not being part of "politics", I am somehow drawn into it beyond what I can do. Contary to what some people believe, the only reason why I like being what I do (that is dj-ing) is because of the music. I think many people can also say that, but act otherwise in the face of business profits or saving one's face.

After I was contacted to spin at the event, I was happy to represent my website as well as (in the larger scale) my country. Everything aside, I JUST wanted to spin good music to the crowd, and help to make the event a little better from whatever way I could. I guess there has got to be a reason why I was booked in the first place right ?

So a week later, I was told that I has 'cheated' the organization and has acted in a unprofessional way in not declaring my personal interests towards a rival club. All things aside once again, at that time or even this very minute, I am not officially with any other club. Even back then, nothing was confirmed. How reasonable is it for me to declare such an issue to anyone, be it a friend, or colleague, something that is not even 20 % confirmed? I rest my case, as much as I respect the organization, I bear no personal grudges towards anyone. Whatever that has been done was probably due to purely business actions and reactions - or so I hope.

Hence I would declare now I had no intention to 'deceive' anyone at any point of time, and I sincerly hope business decisions aside, the love and unity for our love for dance music holds first place.

Thursday, July 17

Oh hello! I realised that I have not been updating this for so long, so ... I should now.

I just got back from Hong Kong yesterday and it was a fantastic "tour". It was really an urban jungle of heat and rushy people. The gig went really well, and it was really nice to meet Yin, Tak and Jimi, and of course Rocky, director of Queens. King of Queens?

Enjoyed myself, was quite a good sound system with good visuals behind me, plus fantastic warm up by Jimi which really got everyone on the floor. I really threw eveything i had to keep things going on , and kept pushing things up a notch higher. Sometimes, I tried to put in some rocking, but otherside long-ish tracks, and I think the crowd slowed a little. Overall things really kicked in after - kept getting more and more crowded, and also met quite a few "ravers". Respects to all, thanx for the great support!! = )

Pictures plus nice review of HK city at GarageSaleShop.com soon ...

Saturday, July 5

Saturday - not much is going this week, but I did hear that Dimitri @ Lola was really good. ZoukIn @ Zouk was obviously quite a good party as well - so should be rocking. Chanced upon the Very Girlie fan-flyer yesterday, and it's looks really interesting.

Anyway, on the progressive side of things, Andy Jarrod, owner of 3 Beat records worldwide and Dj producer extrodinaire is in Singapore today. Would love to interview him but I think I am kinda busy this evening.

So this week I am on the deperate lookout for more upfront and rockin vinyls. Need some more stuff to rock Hong Kong next Sat!

Woo ... let me know if you need me to look out for anything for you when I am there ... = )

so far .. one order for multi-ending Cantonese version of Infernal Affairs, a couple of "I love HK" t shirts, magnets .. etc can't remember the rest .

Have a great weekend

Keishi
*hoping not to get recalled by SAF*

Wednesday, July 2

Bad news today.

Worldwide - people are dying, there are a couple of flash floods + typhoons and a girl was even found sexually assualted at at McRitchie Reservoir area 2 mornings ago, plus today, I was pulled out of Zoukout.

Guess days cannot get worse than this.

Apparantly there had been rumours that I was going to join a competitor club in Singapore and questions were raised like why I was playing for Zoukout when I was going to work for another club. As far as I know, at this minute as this moment, I am still working in a trading company in the most glamorous part of town called Jurong East.

If I am given the opportunity to base myself in the thriving industry be it in any club - why not? So I shd give my assurance that I am not in any other contract besides the one that I have doing global sourcing and selling. And hell - it's not good news after a hard day trying to keep myself awake at work all the time.

So anyway - I hope things get better from now (or so I hope) but still I would have loved the opportunity to represent Singapore for Zoukout. Politics aside that is ... = )

Moving along, least is that HK trip to spin @ Queens is definitley confirmed. So I will be also staying there for a few days to 'get away from things' here.

Looking forward very much to it - maybe I shd just shut up now, case anyone take a nice stab in the back once again.

Cheers,
Keishi

Just received news of this major underground party (already in its 4th edition) this Saturday on the east side of Singapore. I dun believe I missed this all these times, so I am 99% checking this out this Sat.

http://www.chemistryteam.com/alterego/

[Click on the link!]

Today, I also just received news of confirmation of my gig in Queens Club Hong Kong for July 12th. Highlight for this year so far, well 2 weeks later Ill be back in Singapore to play ZoukOut - so I guess for this month, I am a regional-trotting DJ ... *kidding* = P

My gig @ Amara Hotel last Friday was one of the worst gigs I had in my life, but I met some real nice people there who had nice words for me which I really appreciate. Cheers and hope to see you guys soon. The system sucked, and even though I mixed it in, the CD player (AMERICAN DJ) started skipping my itself. I had no choice but to stop the track which incidentally is one called "Greek Salad".

July will be one of the most exciting months in my life, and this includes a dumb ass IPPT Army Physical Test plus reservist training just 2 days before Zoukout. What pure fun. RATS ....

To end off once again, a humble update on KEISHI's SPIN DATES

July 25th for ZOUKOUT NOKIA REMIX - Regional Tent representing Singapore @ Marina Bay Waterfront, Singapore

August 22nd for Fluid @ Tunnel [ - ]

Thursday, June 26

Hiyall,

There seems to be a lot of cancellations of events for me for the next few weeks. All my Tunnel events seems .. gone down the tunnel.

Friday's event @ Amara Hotel is definitely on. Yet to be confirmed is a gig in Hong Kong, so that's probably quite nice to travel a bit again.

Highlight of this week is probably to receive a confirmation of my inclusion on Zoukout Nokia Remix 2003 @ Marina Bay Waterfront. My slot will be at the Regional Tent, featuring top djs from Asia. Guess I am fortunate enuff to "represent" Singapore (The other 2 will be Gerald Ang who plays techno, and DJ Rough who does hip hop). Appreciate this opportunity and hope all goes well for this.

Sasha will be on the same night in the main tent, hopefully before or after I play (Please: I dun want to miss his set!). Other person I am looking forward to see is James Zabeila! He is absolutely out of this world!

Meanwhile, check out www.zoukout.com

Anyway more updates as we go along. Oh yes - yesterday Blueprint was aired on PROTON RADIO, but I was talking to my friend and totally missed it on line! + ( Oh well ... check out www.protonradio.com for the remnants of it.

Not to say AEMF is no longer happening - look for for surprises coming your way.

Friday, June 6

A week has passed with almost nothing going on.

Yesterday, I was 'invited' to the private launch of Lolo, Centro's new club, but unfortunately I could not make it. Guess everything was still nice and 'sexy', so things are prob going well with the new place.

It's Centro birthday tonight, and I am looking forward to it since GSS does work quite closely with Centro for the last year. Looking forward to a good party ...

Tomorrow I am going to head off the Renaissance @ Zouk with Hernan Catteneo and Marcus James spinning the decks. Expecting groovy basslines with infectious progressive funk all round - should be good.

Sunday, June 1

One phrase that came to my mind this weekend :

"It's better to forget than to remember and be forgotten"

Ex-member of Hybrid DJ Lee Mullins was at Centro last night, and he played a wavey set of breakbeats, house, progressive and even shades of electro. It was not too bad, but I expected more from the man himself :)

Anyway, I somehow managed to pass off my CD to him, so hopefully he gets to listen to it - and would be nice if he contacts me at some point in time.

I am off now to Sentosa Island for some sun ( Hopefully when I get there there will still be somemore sun).

Later!

Cheers,
Keishi

Just to inform you of some nice updates that I have, or rather some shameless self promo ...

Of late, I will be represented by Substance Management for gigs in Malaysia, and will continually by GarageSaleShop and Groove Genetics in Singapore.

For Substance Mgt, thwir website was just up last week. It's not totally up yet, but it's nice to see me name up there with so many international artists. =)
Check it out under http://www.substancemgmt.com

For Groove Genetics (http://groovegenetics.blogspot.com), I have just released a CD with them (well it's just a promo sort of thing, but apparantly my release will kick off a string of others called Blueprint.) God knows why about the title, but as always, Yukun is doing a fantastic job promoting it out at the moment. Seems he likes my CD, so I am glad my music is being appreciated by one of my heros.

Interestingly enough, I must admit this is the CD which I have spent the LEAST time on (among all I have done in the past few years) - I think I just recorded it at one go, and everything seemed to flow really well, like roughly how I would plan my set in a club environment given only 80 mins to play around with. So, I hope that means my music is finally going somewhere.

Here is the tracklisting - if you want a copy, pls pls contact me, and I ll send one to you. Appreciate your support very much. You can also choose to listen online here http://www.live365.com/stations/297589. Pardon me, but I havent figured out how to use that one yet.

Blueprint Vol.1
[compiled and mixed by keishi]

JUSTIN O' BRIEN & JONATHAN Levitate (Momu Remix)
STARKID Crayons (Smight Lillie Mix)
SASHA Motorola
HERNAN CATTANEO Satellite

FILTA Anaconda
SUNSCREEM Perfect Motion (Way Out West Remix)
DISTANCE & DACORA Vertical (Hed Static's Horizon)
SPACE MANOEURVES Stage One (Chris Lake Saga Mix)
LUKE CHABLE Sealer's Cove
OXYGEN Am I On Your Mind (Dino Ramirez Mix)

"Keishi, undoubtedly one of the better young DJs to emerge locally the past years, continues to display his knack for fresh and cutting-edge sound. With this release, he takes a further growth in his development as a DJ. Much effort in the programming and selection is evident as he brings together some absolutely amazing tracks, resulting in a set that had me glued from start till end." Yukun, G2 Singapore / Label Manager Avex Trax

"Your mix is the bomb!!!! Have been listening to it the WHOLE FUCKING DAY!!!!!" Rob Szepesi, Director, Xpander.nl

Thanx for the encouraging words!

Cheers.

Wednesday, May 28

Hi once again!

It's a boring Wed afternoon, and i am utterly depressed at work, but that's besides the point. So let me try to keep this blogspot within the scope of music. :)

Anyway, I am a great fan of James Holden, and am looking foward greatly to his gig at Zouk in the next month or so. He has a new single out called Clouds in the Sky, and it must surely be another one of those tunes full of pixie trance elements, and filtered basslines, with a driving groove attached. Maybe he's the next target for a GSS supper? = P

I also do run this site called garagesaleshop if you do not know by now, and i started this site because of my love for progressive house music, and now it's more like a one stop sort of news, reviews, interviews plus occasional event management agency. It's all fun ... i think in a sense our whole crew is still keeping it real - and at least we dun take things to seriously, because I am sure if we do, there wouldnt be any competition. But the truth is ... there is, and I appluad greatly at what they are doing at the moment.

Some really nice ideas comin out at the back of my head - I tend to draw insipiration from people and situations around me, so you might be my next insipration.

In a sense, GSS is about not about being high profile or like that, but at the end of day, we have to at least make sure we pay our bills for making people's lives easier to lead during the weekends.

So, if you are keen to help us out in any way possible, pls do contact me directly. Dun worry - I wun ask you to clear the thrash in my room.

This sat looks like a massive local lineup everywhere at Zouk, Phuture, Centro and even Embassy, so do support your local djs.

Once I figure out how to actually do a nice blogsite, I will put up stuff like bio, pictures, links, downloads maybe .. etc.

Till the next ...

Monday, May 26

Here are my up and coming spin dates. Do drop me a line if you are interested to come!

21 June for Sessions @ Phuture, Zouk
1 July for Fluid @ Tunnel
22 August for Fluid @ Tunnel
3 October for Fluid @ Tunnel
24 November (Public Holiday Eve) for Fluid @ Tunnel

More dates to be added as and when they come. = )

Thanx for the opportunity to perform - Come and you will be entertained! =]

Keishi
One weekend has passed yet again .. after so many days of waiting during the weekdays.

Last Friday, I had a really weird night out at Madam Wong's though. They play that sort of thrash which makes you dance, and then the next moment, they can turn down the volume so much your toes can hardly hear them down there. Retro, R & B, Hip Hop everything .. what a mess ... but it was Jarick's birthday, and we accompanied him to drink ( that means he paid), so before soon I was feeling really 'happy', mainly because I did not eat a good meal before. *excuses*

Was with new girl Yvonne (from the office) most of the time - not new anymore by now huh.. almost 1 month already I think, and we had almost good fun dodging in between toilets and drains making ourselves feel better .. ummm ... well it's not what it seems but in the end, I sent her home (amazingly enough), and managed to get to my bed safely after having a good puke by the drains.

Saturday was even more excellent! After work which was a daze as usual, I msg-ed Yvonne and asked her out for Centro that night as my top 3 dj heros Dutchman Lucien Foort was spinning! Woo .. it turns out she had a bad experience at Centro once so she's avoiding the place like the plague apparantly.

Oh well ...

But the GarageSaleShop Team managed to meet up with Lucien for an exclusive interview and he was so so nice. Check out this website at www.lucienfoort.com if you have the time.

He played an splendid gig, but not too many people were there, but all the same - we had incredible fun. Met some girls towards the late half of the night and before long, they ended up being totally thrashed on the sofas. Even had to help carry/stagger one out ... I guess all of us had that experience before, so nothing to be embarressed about. Haha!

Out of 3 girls, I only remembered one name - Angelina. So > if anyone of you do read this somewhere sometime in the next 50 years, so pls do write to me.

Anyway, went for supper with Lucien after with the crew ( Su Ling of Flying Frogs, Michel of Centro, DJ Small, and the rest of the GSS crew), and how often do you have supper with Lucien Foort?! So I guess this made my weekend worth it!

As usual, very Dutch biased .... Hahaha ...

Keishi

A lot of thoughts running through my mind these few days.

Saturday, May 24

Hi there!

This is my first post on Blogger, and I thought it will be cool to share with you what I am up to, just like 10 million people around the world doing almost the same thing.

So what so different about Keishi?

Have been a Dj for 3 years plus already, and recently have been playing some nice gigs here and there, so I thought it will be nice to let you know what I am up to, plus what's happening.

I hold a trading day job currently. It's alright for now, but am thinking of pursueing a career in the entertainment industry. If you think I am up for it, and like my stuff, maybe you can recommend me to the right people for a nice job at the clubs, labels etc

Let me see what I can post up very soon.
