Well, caught the 2.5 hours movie earlier just now at GV Marina, and personally, I wasn't that impressed. It didn't deviate too much from I expected and the CGI/ visuals weren't THAT great also.

However, Jason loved it and claims he would even watch it a 2nd time. If I had not fallen asleep for the 1st 1 hour, perhaps I would have shared his sentiments.

Got celebrity somemore - Jeanette Awe, Joanne Peh, Constance something, Xian Yun, Edmund Chen, Pan LingLing, Patricia Mok and the Singapore Idol Finalists (the ones that have got in so far) - bet it will end up in the 8Days pages. Wah glam glam, if only I wasn't keeping myself busy with the complimentary glasses of Moet and stuffing myself with the finger food (come on! it was dinner time!), I would have bothered to do some socializing??

Long Live The King!

I was searching the web about Muay Thai and then the image of the Thai King popped up on my screen, but anyway this guy is kinda legendary. He's one of those folks you see in movies - with a wave of a hand, he puts an end to opposing warlords from continuing their civil war in the country.

Anyway, today's Muay Thai entry is something I owe one of my mates for months. Zekk participated in a fight some time back at a community club/ hall called Empire Club situated inside Selatar Camp. Damn far la, bunch of us drove down but still ended up lost.

Well it was going to be my 1st time watching an actual Muay Thai match, and overall the night didn't disappoint (although we were hoping to be on the guest list . . . hahah!). When we got there, I was wondering when Zekk was going to fight, then after a while, we realised that his was the MAIN fight of the night, the LAST fight of the fights in the tournament. We stood through about 15 or so matches involving amateurs fighters from Singapore before the main 3 fights came up.

It was basically the Singapore Team VS the Internaional Team, so if can recall correctly it's our Singapore girl fighting the Thai girl boxer, one other guy vs the Australian one and finally Zekk VS the Canadian representative.

Singapore Team (L-R Zekk, our Singapore girl, our other SG guy)

International Team (L-R Canadian, Thai, Australian)

So apparantly, before each match, there is this traditional ritual called the Wai Khru which basically means paying respects to your teacher, the King or the Chairman of the tournament. I hope I am not wrong in this! Kinda like a way to realize the goodness of one's master who gave them the skills and knowledge and also to strengthen the mind before the fight.

So as expected, the Thai girl literally had a very traditional 10 min Wai Khru. She was kinda short but her dance was graceful to say the least. Our Singapore rep's ritual was kinda almost 'wayang' and almost non existant, come to think of it. It is said that those who can see well can determine who will win the match before the fight even starts. Well, in this case I must agree because the Thai girl gave our SG girl some punches I wouldnt want to receive myself. Anyway, we lost this round.

The 2nd match started ... this one resulted in a draw result!

Finally, Zekk took to the stage in a hall full of cheers and applause . . . and did the ritual thing as well (which he thinks the following shot is a brilliantly taken photo!)

The Canadian fighter doing this rounds too (at this point I was literally standing ring side witnessing the whole procession)

The match started.

At first, Zekk came out real strong, landing a couple of punches to the face and kneeing the guy quite a bit, and then sometime into the 2nd round (I think), the Canadian guy gave Zekk a hard punch which gave him a sharp cut above the left eye. Blood was literally all over the floor - man! this was like in the movies!

Zekk didnt seem affected too much (although after the match he told me he was disoriented for quite a while), but the Canadian took that to his advantage and gave Zekk some serious hits for the next round or so.

Many blocks and ducks later, Zekk came into the 4th round with a knee to his chest and then from then on, the match really tilted in his favour.

Somewhere in the last round, he spotted that the Canadian has let his guard loose for half a second and literally gave him a spinning kick which KNOCKED HIM OUT.

The judges declared that match was over - Zekk's our winner!

That's Zekk wearing the title belt

Zekk's going to be training in Thailand for a couple of months later this year, all the best dude and meanwhile, I'll help him spread the message: SUPPORT LOCAL MUAY THAI!

Ready for New Chocolate?

Sorry I haven't had any worthy entries for a while. Work's been busy and all I wanna do is to have a couple of shots of freezing-cold vodka on the weekends.

Anyway, for those techies out there, I've got some nice preview shots of CommuniAsia from earlier this evening.

Good thing the crowds are not in yet till tomorrow, so I took my time to browse the booths. I couldn't do the close ups though. Bad news is that since the crowds aren't in yet, there are no hot phone promoter chicks to ogle at too. Bah!

Anyway, Samsung has unleased this amazing looking booth (my personal opinion) with a huge ass digital signage which goes around the entrance bend. Really cool stuff

And I think they're really at the forefront of integrating their phones with high megapixel camera. Check it out! A 10 & 7 megapixel camera-phone showcase too.

And to top up the event experience, they have installed numerous touch screens around the booth. It's kinda plain looking from here but wait till you put your finger on the screen. The animation's is just a little short of how I would describe as stunning.

Just across Samsung, there's their competitor LG which has equally a majestic build up, complete with a 1.5 m high stage for breakdancers, beat boxers and what-have-you. Their booth has typically attracted a lot of audiences year to year, but funnily enough, it does not translate to high sales at the shops. Guess Singapore never really took on to LG's phones. Who owns a LG phone anyway?

Anyway, the 'hero' mobile model this year for LG is undoubtedly the Chocolate phone - the one that Kenny Sia is endorsing on his blog. Who knows - maybe he might make a guest apperance at the LG booth over the next couple of days?

There's lotsa other phone manufacturers how-lianing their products. If you can't rebothered to look out for new phones, at least go check out the hot babes. Or if you're gay or something, just go and get the tons of freebies like notepads, tote bags, pens ...

No more bulging trousers

Sony T5

I finally decided to replace my thick ass Sony P10 camera with a new 'slim-as-Fiona Xie' Sony T5 (5.1 MP). It's not the best of the T range but it definitley suffices for my party n travel needs.

Not only that, after living with a miserly 64MB memory stick for the past 2 years, I actually got a 1GB Free Memory Stick Pro Duo when I bought it at the PC Show last weekend. No more worries about running out of memory space!

Did I forget to mention I got a free tripod, lens cleaner, camera case + screen protector too? All for $499 ...

Starting Cantonese Band

Was walking to the bus stop behind Cineleisure after the Apple workshop I attended at iShop this evening and then I heard some band performing some Cantonese song at the Youth Park. Another one of the locations where local talents can 'channel' their energy towards meaningful activity.

These guys were rather talented (rhythm wise lah) but akin to most local bands I have heard/ seen so far, I could hardly make out what they were muttering/ uttering.

Oh well, so here are the guys:

Being part of the Singapore Street Festival and all, you would probably expect a decent crowd, right?

Alamak. What's wrong with the scene here?? Guess not many people knew about the st fest as well. Not much publicity so far. Nothing ground breaking as compared to previous years except some belly dancing thing .... which is kinda odd. Who belly dances in the streets? Not in Singapore's streets at least.

Here's another view from the bus stop ...

Well, there were probably 20 odd people sitting on the benches around the area. Think that girl in front of the stage is prob one of the singer's girlfriend or something. Think quite hot. Maybe I shd start a Cantonese band too. Anyway my Cantonese half past six, so I could most definitely mumble if I can't remember the lyrics.
